The photographs in this outdoor exhibition tell the stories of people’s experiences, past lives and aspirations as well as giving an insight into their relationship to people and place.
The photographs were taken during 2020 and 2021 by people who either took part in Appetite and GRAIN’s online photography workshops, or Appetite at Home packs. This exhibition has been curated with participants of the workshops.

Come and sit at our golden tables and get ready to play DISCO TEA PARTY – the interactive Gameshow sensation that’s sweeping the nation. Join your host plus-sized icon Fatt Butcher for a whirlwind show of competition, prize, and cake (ooh, fancy), and get up on your feet and join the dancing queens for an unforgettable disco.
Featuring performances from some of the UK’s leading drag & cabaret artists, with an all-disco soundtrack – this is an interactive boogie wonderland for all the family.
Performance features loud music throughout, and some audience participation.

Discover more about Newcastle’s very own Philip Astley, the father of modern circus, in the Philip Astley exhibition, taking place from Saturday 7 August until early September in the window of Appetite’s Newcastle Common shop in Astley Walk, located on the corner of Lad Lane and Astley Walk.
The exhibition has been produced by showman, performer and Philip Astley expert Andrew Van Buren and features exciting gems from Van Buren’s own collection including the original life-sized statue of Philip Astley sculpted by renown artist Andy Edwards.

With the uncertainty of this year the Philip Astley Project team decided to move the event from Lyme Valley Park into the town centre and also building on last years online extravaganza’s success, so this year both will be combined allowing you to experience the live events in town and then watch related films at home.

Philip Astley Exhibition at Newcastle Common
See the story of the father of modern circus, Philip Astley, brought to life in an exhibition produced by performer Andrew Van Buren. The month long exhibition features gems from Van Buren’s own collection, bringing together items about Astley and circus more generally as well as the original life-sized statue of Philip Astley sculpted by renowned artist Andy Edwards.
Learn about the circus and Philip Astley’s story in the exhibition starting on Saturday 7 August and taking place in the windows of Appetite’s Newcastle Common shop in Astley Walk, which sits on the corner of Lad Lane & Astley Walk.
Better World Festival is coming Stoke-on-Trent City Centre (Hanley) for the first time! On Friday 6, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 August enjoy hearing from speakers, activists, pioneers, charities, community groups and everyone with an interest in creating positive change in this weekend event which will see an extensive line-up spanning world music, workshops, group exercise classes, panel discussions, meditation sessions, family activities and so much more, designed to inspire new ways of thinking.
With three music stages, a kidzone, two areas hosting an exciting programme of activities focusing on the environment, unity, and wellbeing, two chill-out retreats, a bar area and an artisan market, you’re bound to take something away from this special festival and be inspired!

Stop-by and take part in our Bridge Building Workshops taking place in Albion Square. Work in a team together with our Bridge facilitators, assistants and people you wouldn’t normally meet to create an astonishing and beautiful structure!
Inspired by Leoonardo da Vinci’s design for a self-supporting bridge, the bridge can be built by anyone of any age and experience in less than 30 minutes.

Appetite and ArtsKeeleare really excited to be bringing The Three Counties Cubes to Kidsgrove town centre, in partnership with Go Kidsgroveand Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council. The exhibition will be running from Saturday 19 June to Sunday 18 July. The cubes will be located on King Street, near to the Kidsgrove Oatcakes shop.
Run by ArtsKeele the Three Counties Open Art Exhibition has been taking place since the early 2000s and since 2017 has taken place in the historic Burslem School of Art. It is ‘open’ to anyone from Staffordshire, Cheshire and Shropshire to submit a piece of artwork. In spite of the pandemic, The Three Counties team and partners were committed to making it happen in 2020 and the project this year took place virtually with 145 works appearing in the online exhibition in August.
Appetite got involved in the exhibition this year and offered a brand new prize – the Appetite Audience Choice Award. This saw Appetite’s Supper Club come up with a shortlist of 20 works which were then put to the public to vote for their favourite. The winner, runners up and shortlisted pieces can all be viewed as part of the exhibition.
The Cubes will also highlight winners from different categories of the exhibition and some COVID inspired works.

Back for 2021, The Homecoming celebrates the legacy of local legend Philip Astley ‘founder of the modern circus’ in a day of free, family friendly pop-up contemporary performance outdoors in the town centre.
Be amazed, entertained and wowed as gravity is tested, a giant egg-venture unfolds, there’s some hilarious clowning around and projectile-blasting contraptions get rolled into place, all on your high street.

Join Hum-T on her fast-paced dancing adventure through the streets of Lost Sandwiches. Build a giant wall, throw down some signature moves, and watch one very large egg scramble to the top. Kids and adults alike join in the fun on the egg-venture of a lifetime, becoming hoofed horses, hip-hopping with the Royal Rebels and helping an egg to see the sunny side of life.

Appetite and Newcastle BID Presents… DUST Rising’s Every Other Seat
Every Other Seat is an exhibition created and curated by DUST Rising and brought to Newcastle-under-Lyme by Appetite and Newcastle BID. Every Other Seat features chairs transformed by artists into works of art! All 15 of the seats are unique and individual, created in response to the pandemic’s impact on the arts.
And now we are thrilled to be bringing them to Newcastle-under-Lyme Town Centre as a reminder of the importance of artists and performers to our communities. Along with the original 15 seats, we are excited to share 4 new additions to the exhibition, created by students at Regent College.
In March, we welcomed 7 new artist Seat commissions to new windows in the city centre, along with 2 poetry commissions. This includes seats from art students at Newcastle College which can be seen in the window behind the ex-Dorothy Perkins store.
The seats can be seen in the window of ex-Dorothy Perkins store at the Roebuck Centre and in the window of the old Lancaster Building, Newcastle from Tues 16 February to Sat 24 April.

Appetite and Newcastle-under-Lyme BID are pleased to commission and present a development of the first project and to support Dust Rising and the commissioned artists through this project.
About DUST Rising
DUST Rising originated as an exhibition in support of Stoke-on-Trent’s UK City of Culture bid and has exhibited in many, non-traditional venues since 2016. The Every Other Seat project was first developed for Piccadilly in Hanley in September 2020.
