We are in the audience of a large crowd watching a modern-day circus spectacle outside of the Spitfire Gallery of The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery. The performance is taking place on a piece of grey, square flooring bordered on two sides by the museum, and the other two by the crowd sitting on benches and the floor. The performers, dressed in everyday clothes, are in and around a tall structure of criss-crossed bamboo poles. Four are in motion around the base, one is hanging onto the bamboo close to the floor, legs wrapped around the poles, and a sixth performer is high up in the bamboo, standing up with one leg out behind him. In the background behind the museum, you can see the multi-coloured, hexagonal façade of One Smithfield, and a bottle kiln.
