Work Experience at Appetite

The image shows a human sized silver slinky, towering over three people as though they might go inside. The people are laughing.

Work experience at Appetite!

During my stay at Appetite, I learnt lots of valuable information about the world of work. I was able to build my independence and confidence by completing day to day tasks, working with volunteers and asking questions.

The Appetite team is a unique and friendly set of characters. Diversity within the workspace is great here and really lets you be yourself. I worked closely with Melanie Doyle, Marketing Officer, Heather Dowler, General Manager, Ruby Nixon, Community Coordinator, and many others. Quickly, I felt welcomed within their team for the three days I stayed, and they explained their job roles, their events and any questions I asked in detail so that I could understand their experience!

I worked closely with the team with volunteers during a Newcastle art trail with Art UK, and I worked on an itinerary for the Big Feast, so members of the public had the best possible day out. I think my favourite event that will be at the Big Feast is the Big Mob by Bedlam Oz. They will be there on both days and I love the concept about giant slinkies!

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay, I would recommend Appetite for those who are creative, enjoy the arts or just like working within the local community. Hopefully, I can work with Appetite again in the future and I can’t wait to see more projects from them!
