Appetite presents Party Games Party! by Realplayer Performance 21-26 October

Realplayer is a new, international performance initiative from Sarah Thom and Mat Hand.

We want to offer opportunities for togetherness and will place the audience at the centre of our process. We intend to engage with traditional and non-traditional arts audiences in places where people come together – village halls, community centres and theatres. We aim to explore community ritual, abandon and risk through the creation of large and small scale performances that are unpredictable, inclusive and accessible.

PARTY GAMES PARTY!
Party Games Party! is a highly interactive, anarchic performance event with a strong participatory element that invites people to play traditional party games in a joyfully immersive, performative environment.

Over the course of an evening, in a hall filled with bunting and balloons, a games master invites the audience to join in games remembered from childhood parties. There are spectators and players, winners and losers. The audience supports, cajoles and encourages. Some will triumph and some will fail. Each game has a winner’s ceremony. On the victory podium there are fanfares, applause, medals and prizes. Something to play for – a reason to win!
In post game interviews players and spectators get a chance to reveal all. We watch video replays of the action on large screens. In close up and slow motion we witness a winners victory, a losers defeat, moments of sheer abandon and the crowd’s reaction to it all.

Appetite says: Sounds like a giggle, we do like to get involved at Appetite and being able to influence the outcome of a show whilst participating as an audience member sounds like great fun!

Party Games Party! is being funded, produced and developed in collaboration with Arts Council England, Appetite (Creative People & Places Stoke-on-Trent) and Norwich Arts Centre.

Magna Mysteria – Collect your interactive Tarot card from Hanley Market before noon on 23 and 24 August to receive your instructions!

The Whale – 11.00am – 3.30pm find the beast on Tontine Square!

Punt – The chaps can be found floating around near The Potteries Shopping Centre at 11.30am, 1.00pm & 2.00pm.

Sol Cinema – Films begin at 11.00 am and run every five to ten minutes until 3.30pm, discover the smallest solar powered cinema outside Silver Coin Amusements.

The Semi-Automatic Bandstand – Can be seen and heard but not necessarily believed outside Hanley Market from 11.00am – 3.30pm.

Clay Taster Sessions – Get messy with BCB at Longton Market from 1.30pm – 3.30pm

The Appetite programme is funded by Arts Council England and is led by the New Vic Theatre in partnership with B Arts, Brighter Futures, Partners in Creative Learning and Staffordshire University. Appetite is also supported by Stoke City Council.

Punt by Artizani

Meet two Oxbridge undergrads off for a relaxing punt. Blissfully unaware of reality and physics, the boat is now drifting down your busy street as they regale and serenade the public.
This is a charming encounter you won’t want to miss. Established in 1989 by Artistic Director James Macpherson, Artizani are based in the High Peak region of North West England.
The company specializes in creating medium and small scale street arts performances with high production values and a surreal twist.

Artizani can be found floating about near The Potteries Shopping Centre!

Appetite says: Well you don’t see that in Hanley very often!

The Whale by Talking Birds

A giant metal Whale which swallows audiences whole, to enjoy a charming, playful and submersive theatre experience inside. Performed by a solo actor, for one person at a time, or small family groups.

The Whale is an extraordinary and unexpected visitor to high streets, public squares and green spaces, transforming each environment it enters.
Inside they meet a lovesick submariner who sings a song and hands them a message to take away.

Pavement Cafe Aug 17 What, Where and When…LISTINGS!

Clay Tasters: Free, friendly and fun ceramic workshops for the whole family, delivered by contemporary artists.

The Travelling Tea Room: Outside Wright’s pies – All day!
Get a free brew for an opinion or two! The Travelling Tea Room is a beautifully decorated tent accompanied by a quirky 3-wheeled van that will appear at cultural events around this wonderful city. You are invited to relax, enjoy a cup of tea and a chat in the Travelling Tea Room. The Travelling Tea Room will appear at each of the Appetite events over the course of the summer. Thanks to The Mitchell Arts Centre & The Colouring Box for providing an amazing place to relax and chat about the arts.

Trolleys by C-12 Dance Theatre – Outside Tesco 1.30 pm & 3pm
Trolleys spin, glide and slide in this highly physical, humorous outdoor performance where high- octane contemporary dance, acrobatics and street dance merge with the extraordinary world of trolleys. Set to a pounding electro-acoustic score, TROLLEYS will tease, thrill and move its audience. You’ll never go shopping in the same way again.
This is a must see without a doubt. Thanks to Tesco for their support.

An amazing opportunity to dance with the cast from Trolleys and to try some adrenaline fueled fun!

The Knowledge Emporium by Slunglow – Tontine Square 11.30am & 2.30pm
The Knowledge Emporium is a sweetshop with one big difference: it doesn’t take money. It trades sweets for knowledge – your knowledge, your stories, your recipes or anecdotes or beliefs for sweets. Write something in the Big Book of Everything We Know and help yourself to sweets. Stories are then performed from the Big Book of Everything We Know on Saturday 17^th.

Attachment by Dans la Poche – Walkabout 11am & 2.30 pm
Travelling haberdasher Gracie Spoon carries a tray full of buttons, tricks and tales, weaving together a patchwork wonderland of magic and stories to delight, inspire and amaze.

Wheel House by Acrojou – Bus Station – 11.30am, 12.45pm & 2.00pm
A story which unfolds inside and around the circular set as it rolls along at a gentle pace, with the audience walking alongside. Performed ‘fourth wall’ over a series of scenes, some rolling and some static, The Wheel House features comedy, theatrical acrobatics and breathtaking moments of risk, all housed within an exquisite, hand-built structure.
