Appetite presents Take Away
Appetite and Appetite community hubs will soon be hitting the road!
As part of Appetite’s aims are to introduce people to excellent art we have the rare ability to occasionally take some of our community hubs out of Stoke-on-Trent to see what the rest of the UK get’s up to. These Appetite Take Aways will visit a variety of inspiring arts events across the UK to create a buzz about the arts, show communities what excellent ideas are available and to see if we can inspire our communities to put on events of a similar nature right here at home in Stoke.
This Take Away will see a group of around 30 participants taking a trip up to the north east to see how they do things up there! Members of Friends of Hanley Park, North Shelton Community Partnership, Meir Residents Association and more will be joining the coach as we wind our way up to Durham for the first stop.
Stop 1: A trip around Durham for the marvelous Lumiere. Lumiere returns with a spectacular raft of installations and projections to illuminate Durham’s buildings, streets and public spaces. Local and international artists, lighting designers, and community groups will breathe new light into the city with a breathtaking series of lightworks.
This year’s festival is certain to be just as popular with artworks sprawling right across the city in a sprinkle of winter magic.
Stop 2: Overnight in Newcastle with a quick glance around The Baltic. The Baltic is housed in a landmark industrial building on the south bank of the River Tyne in Gateshead, BALTIC is a major international centre for contemporary art. Baltic has no permanent collection, providing instead an ever-changing calendar of exhibitions and events that give a unique and compelling insight into contemporary artistic practice. Baltic’s dynamic, diverse and international programme ranges from blockbuster exhibitions to innovative new work and projects created by artists working within the local community.
Stop 3: Angel of the North. The Angel of the North is one of the UK’s most iconic land marks, though the statue can be seen for miles around we’ll be up close and personal with the Angel to get a real sense of the scope of this fantastic landmark!
Stop 4: As our ear’s pop due to the difference in altitude from the north to the south we’ll take an afternoon break at The Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park is a pioneering place that aims to challenge, inspire, inform and delight, welcoming over 300,000 visitors, including 40,000 learning visits each year. Featuring a wealth of exhibitions and large scale sculpture’s this will be the final stop on our epic Appetite Take Away, what a wonderful way to round off an excellent journey.
