About my Window

Textile I (home-bound) is displayed at Sharps – map number 2

I’m interested in connections with textiles and it feels really fitting that my work is sat in an interior showroom space, and I’ll be working with Sharps on a colour palette that works for them too. There’s a lot of comfort to be found in the home – a place of rest, connection, memory and. Patchworking and quilting is something that most of us have come across in our intimate lives, grandparents, parents, friends, women’s circles etc. I like how it relates to using everything up – nothing gets wasted. It’s like the antithesis of throw-away culture and something I think we need to actively move away from.

About Me

I’m interested in connections with textiles and it feels really fitting that my work is sat in an interior showroom space, and I worked with Sue at Sharps on a colour palette that works for them too – muted greys and softer tones – greys are not something that I’ve worked with a lot with natural dyeing so it was a challenge. There’s a lot of comfort to be found in the home – a place of rest, connection, memory. Patchworking and quilting is something that most of us have come across in our intimate lives, grandparents, parents, friends, women’s circles etc. Also inspired by the beautiful Korean textile wrapping cloth called ‘Pojagi’ – in both techniques, nearly everything gets used up and I like how nothing is wasted. Even the smallest squares. It’s like the antithesis of throw-away culture and something I think we need to actively move away from. I also worked with local florist Emily Hewitt of Wilderness Floral Design who created the beautiful festive floral arrangements that frame the work. The textiles are mainly UK grown silk, and the dyes used came from foraged, found and collected matter.
