First Snow is displayed at Brassingtons – map number 5

The artwork will be a whimsical winter-themed display, using intricate paper cutting techniques and shadow puppetry elements to bring it to life. Using bold, detailed outlines, it will also reveal a hidden layer of depth at night time.

About Me

I am a Stoke-based illustrator and multi-disciplinary visual artist, with a fondness for eye-catching art forms and bright, contrasting colour schemes. I love creating artwork that fuses meaningful narratives, complimentary textures and patterns, and the juxtaposition of playfulness and darkness.

Textile I (home-bound) is displayed at Sharps – map number 2

I’m interested in connections with textiles and it feels really fitting that my work is sat in an interior showroom space, and I’ll be working with Sharps on a colour palette that works for them too. There’s a lot of comfort to be found in the home – a place of rest, connection, memory and. Patchworking and quilting is something that most of us have come across in our intimate lives, grandparents, parents, friends, women’s circles etc. I like how it relates to using everything up – nothing gets wasted. It’s like the antithesis of throw-away culture and something I think we need to actively move away from.

About Me

I’m interested in connections with textiles and it feels really fitting that my work is sat in an interior showroom space, and I worked with Sue at Sharps on a colour palette that works for them too – muted greys and softer tones – greys are not something that I’ve worked with a lot with natural dyeing so it was a challenge. There’s a lot of comfort to be found in the home – a place of rest, connection, memory. Patchworking and quilting is something that most of us have come across in our intimate lives, grandparents, parents, friends, women’s circles etc. Also inspired by the beautiful Korean textile wrapping cloth called ‘Pojagi’ – in both techniques, nearly everything gets used up and I like how nothing is wasted. Even the smallest squares. It’s like the antithesis of throw-away culture and something I think we need to actively move away from. I also worked with local florist Emily Hewitt of Wilderness Floral Design who created the beautiful festive floral arrangements that frame the work. The textiles are mainly UK grown silk, and the dyes used came from foraged, found and collected matter.

The Girl on Gitana Street is displayed at Stage Door – map number 7

The girl in the little red cloak takes us on a journey down Gitana Street, leaving her gypsy life behind for a life on the stage.

A paper cut illustration of a journey to ‘The Stage Door’ with a nod to performer Gertie Gitana 1887-1957 – commonly billed as The Staffordshire Cinderella for her petite form + supposed gypsy origins.

About my Window

Lost in Translation is displayed at Costa Coffee – map number 1

2D hand drawn artwork using Posca bright colour pens on the windows. Hand drawn local dialects from Stoke on Trent, Birmingham and Yorkshire areas. Combining three local dialects on windows along with 2D drawings. Such as Council Pop, It Like Blackpool illuminations, Ow At Youth.

Some of the lettering is twisted ‘N’, ‘J’ and ‘Z’. It’s like Eminem. He always uses ‘e’ and ‘n’ on the wrong side on his albums. It also links to the Lost in Translation theme.

If you are unsure what the dialects mean then you can search online. These dialects come from Birmingham, Black County, Stoke on Trent and Yorkshire. The importance of knowing some wordings and sometimes rarely spoken dialects. They could fade away forever. The older generation may know what it means and the younger generation would like to know an oral/spoken history of dialect.

About Me

I am an Award Winning Multi Talented Contemporary Artist and I am based in Birmingham. I enjoy all forms of visual art allowing creativity and innovation. Most work is hand drawn multicoloured art using Poscapens. Constantly experimenting, finding new ideas/concepts, producing work combining the effect of colours, patterns, raising people’s imaginations and awareness with some of my work influenced from personal life experiences of being Deaf and from travels internationally. I have also produced photography/videos via Instagram.

Shoji Inspired is displayed at Old Bella Napoli – map number 8

‘Shoji Inspired’ started from both – my appreciation for the beauty and diversity of Japanese shoji paper as well as my continuous interest into finding new ways of exploring drawing, text and installation – as well as exploring the bridge between art and design.

About Me

I often explore places and memories with a particular focus on architecture. Experimenting with methods of displaying drawing, painting and text is an important element of my work. In my belief, exploration of various art disciplines brought together has potential to strengthen rich foundations for the future of the arts.

Santa’s Pataphysical Haircut is displayed at Barnet Gentlemen’s Hairdressers – map number 4

“Science does not know it’s debt to imagination” – Ralph Waldo Emerson We are perhaps to only known creatures to display the ability to imagine (although some may argue this point). It is in our instinct to be inquisitive: we want to know how things function and why they do what they do. Therefore to understand science one must think. One my imagine. To imagine imaginary solutions in science is called Pataphysics- the science of imaginary solutions. “Santas Pataphysical Haircut” explores the concept of Pataphysics through the repurposing of Candy Canes as a supplement for Coal in a steam engine, which in-turn drives a moving wheel, filled with, Hair dryers, clippers and combs to give Santa a perfect stylish Haircut every time!

About Me

I am a multidisciplinary artist, working in Photography, Model Making and Set Design and love to combine all three into my work. Well studying in my third year Staffordshire University for my degree in Photography I found my passion for combining made sets and modelsproducing a project called The Metaphysical Machines” for my Degree show. These images/sets explored the wonderful world of the simple made complex through imaginary solutions, to once mundane tasksdepicted in the form of colourful handmade “Heath Robinson style MachinesThis is a project I have continued to develop and create still within my practice today

Pop-up Panto is displayed at Aynsley Insurance – map number 9

With my usual world of theatre being on hold for a while, I wanted to recreate some of the missing magic on the high street.

My visual inspiration comes from my experience within Scenic Art using a combination of the illustrative style of pantomime design, ballet sets and pop-up books.

About Me

I studied Theatre Design at Birmingham Institute of Art & Design ‘93-‘98 and since graduating have worked as a Scenic Artist. I paint, sculpt and design for theatre, museums, concerts, theme parks, film and TV.

Past projects have included an 8m high polystyrene Robbie Williams head and two re-builds of JORVIK Viking Centre.

Currently working on a series of drawing commissions from my Birmingham workshop.

Christmas Card is displayed at Vision Personalised Gifts – map number 6

The idea for this installation was born out of my Graphic Design practice, having used this minimalist paper craft style for a number of digital commercial projects. I thought it would be interesting to see how this on-screen layered paper aesthetic will translate when used to create a winter landscape with physical materials.

About Me

Jon Paul Green is an award winning Graphic Designer and Artist working and living in Stoke-On-Trent. Coming from a multidisciplinary background Jon Paul enjoys exploring various artistic avenues including collage, installations, typography, gorilla advertising and performance art to name a few. Resent works have included four text-based installations situated between Westport Lake and Etruria in response to the effects that Covid 19 has had on day to day life.

Celebration of Stoke-on-Trent and it’s People is displayed at Waterstones – map number 3

The work also celebrates Stoke’s cultural diversity and religions.  I have used shard waste from local industry on the window floor interdispersed with images of famous people from Stoke past and present.

About Me

Philip Hardaker is an established artist based in Stoke on Trent.   His sculptural work can be seen in lots of locations in Stoke on Trent.  He has completed commissions for clients such The Houses of Parliament at Burslem Town Hall , HRH Prince Charles at Middleport Pottery and Museum.

Cloud Explosion is displayed at The Corner – map number 10

I wanted to create a 3D collage, similar to a diorama but with a modern twist. The work is completely intuitive, there was no plan, other than a kind of magical upside down world / cloud land. (as you do) I think maybe it’s my reaction to what’s going on around us. Somewhere, there is beauty in this chaos!

About Me

Tracey Meek is a mixed media artist, working with a range of mediums; 2D/3D collage, painting, abstract sculpture and installation. Colour and composition are an integral part of her work. With a natural fluidity, it is intuitive in process and content, an extension of herself and personal experience.
