Appetite are working with Coventry-based company Imagineer Productions on The Bridge Project, exploring bridge-building and bridge-burning in local communities across Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme. We are looking to recruit a pool of local Workshop Assistants (bursary) to help us with workshops with community groups as part of The Bridge Project using Imagineer’s Bride Building Kits. Created with civil engineers Arup (who designed Sydney Opera House and hundreds of other amazing places) the Bridge Building Kits, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s design, allow anyone of any age and experience to build a bridge in less than two hours.
Appetite will be inviting community groups, schools, businesses and individuals to host a Bridge Building event in outdoor public spaces, bringing together people who wouldn’t normally meet, with the aim of fostering new connections and building bridges.
We are looking to recruit a pool of Workshop Assistants supported with a bursary to undertake training with Imagineer and assist with these workshops throughout August and September 2021.
Opportunity Description
Following training from Imagineer, you will support our Bridge Workshop Facilitator in a hands-on, two-hour workshop with communities and participants of all ages.
You will support the participants to work together to use the kit to safely assemble the Bridge, exploring themes of community connection and bridge building. You will help create a welcoming and supportive environment in which people can build new relationships.
We are looking for
This is an open call and we are appealing to local people of all backgrounds to get involved. We are not looking for any previous workshop or arts experience just willingness to learn and enthusiasm to get involved.
We would love for our Workshop Assistants to have:
- An enthusiastic attitude and a warm and welcoming manner
- Willing and able to get stuck into the hands-on workshops with people of a range of ages, experience and abilities.
- Desire to learn and develop new skills
- Able and willing to support the Facilitator with moving and transporting the kit
Terms
We will be offering a bursary of £150 to cover your expenses for the half-day training session with Imagineer on Monday 26 July and 2 x 2 hour initial workshops. Assistants may be required to support with additional workshops and a bursary of £50 will be offered to cover your expenses for each of these workshops.
The precise workshops schedule is yet to be confirmed but it is likely that sessions may take place on both weekends and weekdays during August and potentially September. We would need the Workshop Volunteers to have some flexibility, particularly during August.
