by Hassun El-Zafar
HEAR – Hearing Extinction and Audiological Relapse is an award-winning audio projection experience that explores the parallels between human sensory hearing loss, and the extinction of wildlife and biodiversity due to climate change.
Through a combination of storytelling, audio recordings, archive material and sound design, El-Zafar invites us to discover three diverse ecosystems from around the globe: the mangroves of The United Arab Emirates, the tropical rainforests of Borneo and woodlands in Yorkshire, UK. Each location is linked with a narrative that exposes the rapidly increasing losses of unique sounds, melodies and rhythms in nature due to the climate emergency and destructive human activity.
