Down The Rabbit Hole in Kidsgrove

Down The Rabbit Hole in Kidsgrove

📅 Friday 24 & Saturday 25 March ⏰ 7pm-9pm  📍 Canalside, Kidsgrove

Appetite in partnership with Canal & River Trust are excited to be taking another trip Down the Rabbit Hole!

Over two nights the stretch of canal from Kidsgrove railway station to the north entrance of Harecastle Tunnel will come to life. The experience will include two stunning projections created by story, projection and sound artists, Illuminos, with students from The King’s Church of England Academy. Illuminos have been back to the school this year to work with students to create a brand new projection, with last year’s projection also being part of the evening.

Since January the Bright Ideas project, made up of women of Kidsgrove and young women who are students from The King’s, have been working together with lighting award-winning New Vic lighting designer Daniella Beattie. The culmination of their project will be unveiling a lit art installation that they have created from concept to build, which can be viewed alongside the light show.

As you walk along the towpath you will also Follow the Rabbit, led by a trail of 50 jars decorated with fantastical beasts and magical creatures made by artists and community with B-Arts in 2022.

FAQs

Do I need to book?

Down the Rabbit Hole is a free event, but spaces are limited for safety reasons.

Half of the audience capacity was bookable online in 15 minute slots in advance. This was to make sure that numbers were spread evenly over the two hours each evening. All those slots have now been filled.

The remaining slots are available to those who walk up on the evening on a first come, first serve basis. If you do come along as a walk-up, please be aware that you may be asked to wait until others leave and it is safe to allow more people onto the towpath. We are not able to say in advance how long that wait might be.

Those who did book a slot but are unable to attend are kindly asked to cancel their tickets on Eventbrite or let us know via email to askus@appetite.org.uk so that spaces can be allocated to others.

How easy is it to get to the event?

There will be signs and volunteers to help you find your way.

The main entrance to the towpath will be from the railway station car park.

This entrance has steps. Alternatively, the accessible entrance point is by the drive, accessed just past the Kidsgrove Memorial Garden entrance, located opposite St Thomas’ Church. Please note that this involves travelling over uneven ground.

Wheelchair users and those with mobility issues should be aware that there is a bank that you may need assistance getting up and down. The towpath itself is also narrow and uneven.

Can I park at the event?

Parking is available at Kidsgrove railway station car park and Meadows Road car park.

Kidsgrove station can be found at ST7 1BX. This is a pay and display car park, which accepts cash, card, pay by phone and contactless. It also has accessible parking and is open 24 hours.
